1. Get to the parade route at least 3 hours early to get parking and set up chairs.2. Sit in the grand-stands for the bigger parades. I hear it's worth the $20.
3. Go to the Endymion ball.
4. Get drinks and chips & salsa at Superior Grill pre-parade OR bring a rolling cooler and Zapps chips to the parade route.
5. DO NOT... I repeat DO NOT go to Bourbon Street during the entire week of Mardi Gras!
6. Parades uptown are so much more fun than they are in the French Quarter. (The French Quarter is 10x better when it's not Mardi Gras!)
7. Use the bathroom before you leave your house because you're not going to be able to go while you're out at parades. (However, if you do have to go badly enough, there is a church on St. Charles Ave that only charges $1 and bleaches the port-o-potty before and after you use it!)
8. Go to Muses... for the throws and to see the cool floats!
9. Trade beer for good throws!
10. If you go to Zulu on Mardi Gras day, you have to get a coconut!
...and the most important lesson of all:
If you move to a new city, the people that don't try to make you feel welcome are not worth it. Thank you, Angie for going out of your way to make my move easier. You're the only real friend that I have in Louisiana! Also, if you move and notice that the people that you used to hang out with stop calling you and make no effort to come visit you, you should also notice that those people are not your real friends. Thank you Julia, Hilary, Tucker, Chris Hall, Chris Gray, Kristine, and Sean (of course) for being my real friends! I love you all!!
P.S... This guy was really gross, but he's the piano guy at my favorite bar in New Orleans... Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar!
